The Story Behind UMERG

UMERG (Upper Midwest Experimental Rocketry Group) was founded in the late spring of 2008 by Bill Assimes and Dave Leininger in order to promote and sponsor large group projects for events like LDRS and BALLS.

We also provide tutorage and facilities for people that are or want to be involved in experimental rocketry.

Even though Bill and Dave were already members of an established group (Tripoli MN) they felt there was a need to have a another group with that sole purpose and that it needed to be keep separate from the other, and so UMERG was born.

Because a core group of people from Minnesota, Wisconsin and, Iowa were already thought of as members we decided that the club should be representative of the upper Midwest rather than just our home state. Hence the U in UMERG. The rest of the name pretty much explains itself.

As we continue to grow we hope to become an influential part of research rocketry here in the Midwest as well as across the United States.
